Putting Together the How-To Block of the Month - With Sashing

For the last few years, I have providing instructions each month for How-To make a different quilt block. There is no purpose to these blocks except to experiment, learn new things, and have some fun!

Stack of Quilt Blocks

The following is another option of putting those blocks together. This option gives the block requirements for multiple quilt sizes with a 2 inch sashing and borders.

For these 12 inch finished size blocks, you will need the following:

Crib size quilt top laid out with spaces for sashing

Crib size - 3 x 4 = 12 total blocks

Twin size - 5 x 6 = 30 total blocks

Queen size - 7 x 7 = 49 total blocks

King size - 8 x 7 = 56 total blocks

Here is a sample layout for the crib size, but all sizes follow the same idea.

The A pieces are the small pieces between each block on the row.

The B pieces are the top and bottom borders and the sashing between each row.

The C pieces are the side borders.

Layout of blocks with sashing for each piece

Stitch each row of blocks and A pieces together. Press toward the sashing.

Stitch the rows to the B pieces. Press toward the B pieces.

Stitch on the C borders.
